Leadership position within the Centre for Mental Health and Brain Sciences
Full-time, 5-years fixed term (with ongoing underlying position) at our Hawthorn campus
Academic Level E + salary loading and 17% superannuation
About the Role
We are currently seeking an accomplished leader to join the School of Health Sciences at Swinburne University and provide strategic leadership to our world-class Centre for Mental Health and Brain Sciences (CMHBS).
As the Centre Director, you will provide leadership to a dynamic team of research staff and students within CMBHS to develop new national and international opportunities for further growth and excellence. You will be the key liaison between the Centre and the research institutes of Swinburne University along with the Departments within the School of Health Sciences.
To be successful in this role, you will have a proven track record in leadership and will generate high quality research outputs and attract significant external research funding from competitive national and international funding bodies and industry. You will make a strong personal contribution to collegial support for senior staff and mentoring of mid-career and early career researchers and in attracting and supervising relevant higher degree candidates.
This position offers the exciting opportunity to contribute significantly to the future of mental health and brain sciences research while also providing leadership and mentorship to a diverse team.
This is a fixed term role with an underlying ongoing position as Professor of Mental Health and Brain Sciences within the School of Health Sciences.

The CMHBS brings together leading international researchers in the areas of psychological treatments for serious mental illness, development of novel therapeutics for mental health disorders, neurocognitive and mood effects of bioactive nutrients, pharmaceuticals, recreational drugs and dietary interventions, and brain imaging and psychophysiology. About You
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:
Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and manage multidisciplinary research projects and teams in the field of mental health, brain sciences and human clinical trials.
An outstanding and internationally significant track record of research in mental health, brain sciences or related field as evidenced by a range of highly ranked and cited publications.
Demonstration of a significant track record in attracting external research income through competitive grants and/or industry collaboration.
Demonstrated links with relevant industries, organisations and research communities and demonstrated competence in working with relevant professions in industry and government.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to liaise with a wide variety of academics, work within a consultative, team environment, including an ability to work effectively with external members of the School, University and relevant professions in industry and government.
Experience in contributing to policy debates about mental health and brain sciences including through media and other public forums is preferred.
Qualifications
