This role presents a great opportunity at all levels to develop new skills and productively contribute to an ever changing environment. The New Zealand Police Digital Forensics Unit is part of the High Tech Crime Group and play a crucial role in all digital aspects of an investigation.

You will receive training and gain valuable on the job experience as you become an expert in digital forensics. You will assist investigations from planning through to expert witness testimony, you will need to demonstrate your IT knowledge and how to apply it to add value to investigations. You will use an array of communication skills to convey technical information to a broad audience.

The New Zealand Police Northern Digital Forensic Unit have multiple positions available, at Assistant, Technician and Analyst levels available in the Auckland lab. Digital Forensic assistant this role is for a recent graduate in a Computer Security course or equivalent experience (2 years minimum) in ICT, forensics, incident response or security.

Digital Forensic technician this role is for a graduate with an Undergraduate Degree in Information Computer Technology or equivalent work experience (3 years minimum), forensics, electronics, incident response and/or security.

Within this role you will be expected to complete internationally recognised training and have practical, real world forensic investigative experience. The Digital Forensic Unit has a career structure in place to progress staff from Technician level through to Analyst.

This takes from 30 months to complete. The successful candidates will develop skills through training and mentorship, this includes an understanding of New Zealand Police, the legislation that we operate by, assisting investigations in complex technical aspects and to provide expert support.

Digital Forensic analyst you will already have practical, real world digital forensic and investigative experience, and have a certification such as CFCE, GCFE, or similar. Special requirements clean and current (full) Driver's license. IT degree or work experience within an IT related field. Complete Certified Forensic Computer Examiner certification as part of the career structure.
