Customs Officer New Zealand Customs Service location Hawkes Bay.

The New Zealand Customs service has a full-time Customs Officer position, based in our Napier Office. In this role, you will be identifying and preventing potential security and community risks coming in and out of New Zealand. As a Customs Officer, you will have a high level of integrity, honesty and discretion. You will also be interacting with a wide range of people from all walks of life.

Mo tenei turanga mahi I About the role based in Napier, you'll be working across the East Coast and Gisborne regions, across to Taupo and Ohakea Air Force Base as well as the wider Hawkes' Bay.

You will have the opportunity to process passengers and goods in/out of Aotearoa which can include search activities. Facilitate legitimate trade and travel, collect import and export data. Intercept contraband (such as drugs and weapons), investigate and prosecute offences. Inspect cargo and mail, assess and collect duty/GST on imports. Working as part of a small tight knit and busy team, you will cover everything from marine (all craft types - commercial, yachts, cruise ships and fishing vessels), all Service Delivery functions, a large excise clientele, inspections and private flights.

About you to be successful in this role you will need to be a team player, have an action-oriented approach and be willing to learn. You will have high levels of integrity, honesty and discretion. In addition, you will have good communication skills and enjoy interacting with people.

Being a Customs officer means being available for weekends, nights and public holidays. The salary range for this role is $51,918 - $71,571 plus an annual allowance of $1,071 for working in a district port. Mid-point or competent for the range is $63,256 plus the allowance.
