QML Pathology is a comprehensive medical laboratory and pathology practice with laboratory and patient pathology collection centre locations throughout Queensland, Northern NSW and Tasmania (Tasmanian Medical Laboratories).

About the role a vacancy exists for a Courier / Laboratory Assistant to join our Gladstone team and enjoy stability and fulfilment with QML Pathology, part of Healius, a progressive healthcare leader. This Part Time position (Minimum35 hrs per fortnight) will be required to work various shifts between the hours of 7:00am and 6:00pm) Monday to Friday, and participate in occasional weekend and public holiday shifts as required. Your duties will include routine courier runs predominantly for the pickup and delivery of pathology samples including urgent specimens, blood products, test results and clinical waste.

Liaising between Referring Medical Practitioners and the Medical Liaison Officer with regards to store orders. Processing, packing and delivery of supplies to Medical Practitioners and clinics as required. Preparation and delivery of reports. Stock control in main laboratory. Routine receipting, handling and processing of specimens, both pre and post analytical. Identification and prioritization of urgent specimens.

Cleaning duties including disposal of Biological Waste. Packaging of samples for transport according to Dangerous Goods regulations. Answering general phone calls. Electronic upload and download of results from external providers. Maintaining patient confidentiality and QML Pathology integrity and Compliance and adherence with all QML Pathology policies and procedures, and Workplace Health and Safety procedures.

About you to be successful in this role, you will demonstrate a current Queensland Open Drivers’ Licence. Pride in professional presentation, attitudes and behaviours in line with our values. An outstanding customer focus, including the interpersonal and communication skills to liaise with both internal and external customers. Good knowledge of Gladstone and surrounding areas.

Must be a cohesive, contributing team member and display a flexible and positive attitude toward achieving outcomes. Strong integrity and reliability. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. General computer literacy. Effective time management and organisational skills and a willingness to adhere to departmental and organisational policies and procedures. Previous lab experience and exposure to medical terminology desirable, but not essential.
