Consular Assistant Embassy of the United States of America location Auckland.

The Consulate General of the United States of America in Auckland invites applications for a full-time, permanent Consular Assistant. If you are a professional who is driven, flexible and enjoy working in a busy environment, then this position is for you. The Consular Assistant processes consular applications and provides information to the public with the utmost professionalism and responsiveness.

You will be responsible for processing visas, passports, and other consular applications using proprietary consular systems, performing fraud checks, drafting correspondence, and maintaining records and statistics. 25% of your time will be spent dealing with applicants at the Consular Window.

Day-to-day, we will rely on you to deliver a customer focused, effective and timely response to the public about complex citizenship and visa issues. You must display sound judgment and be able to read and apply specific rules/procedures and guidelines. You also need to be adaptable and willing to take on new tasks, as Consular Assistants rotate every six months into either a cross-Consular portfolio or a specialized unit role.

To be successful in this role, you will have proven administrative skills and outstanding attention to detail. We’re looking for a professional who has good computer skills and strong knowledge of office procedures, with a minimum of two years office administrative experience. Previous customer service experience involving contact with the public, is also required. You will need excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to work co-operatively with others and communicate effectively with a range of people. You should be able to work under pressure to meet deadlines, and have knowledge of accounting principles and cash management.
