Communications Coordinator Rugby Australia location Sydney.

Rugby Australia (Rugby AU), the governing body of Rugby Union in Australia, is looking for a communications and marketing specialist, covering all forms of Rugby. The role reports to Head of Communications and Digital and works closely with Marketing & Communications (MarComs) team and cross functional departments.

The successful applicant will be highly self-motivated, have a strong understanding of the digital media space and be able to work closely with internal and external stakeholders to deliver proactive, positive communications across a variety of platforms and digital media. The role requires the willingness to develop digital-specific and multimedia skills including written editorial, video, and photo editing. This position is focused on helping to grow the reach of Rugby Australia through fan engagement.

Key Responsibilities of the role generate and publish daily content for Rugby Australia. Publish content to Rugby Australia social media channels to a specified schedule. Build relationships and contacts to generate positive media coverage. Contribute to Rugby Australia’s corporate communications requirements. Manage media appointments, including PR events, for Rugby Australia.

Develop and execute internal and external communications plans. Write and distribute media releases and other external and internal communication materials as required. Pitch stories to media and liaise with media and internal stakeholders in relation to proactive and reactive opportunities. Assist in media operations and media accreditation for Rugby Australia’s major events. Identify and troubleshoot issues within Rugby AU Content Management System (CMS).

To be successful you will need Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in journalism, or media/communications. Minimum three years’ media and/or marketing experience. Excellent writing skills. Interviewing and reporting.  Sound knowledge of rugby. Basic Photoshop skills and/or skills in other similar applications. Understanding of a CMS and publishing skills.

Desirable Adobe creative suite programs. On-camera or audio/podcast skills. Basic HTML understanding. Experience in sports.  Experience working with a digital CMS. Background in publishing content to social media and/or multimedia platforms.
