What we do rights Intelligence is a purpose-driven start-up, with an exclusive license to convert the powerful and trusted data of the Human Rights Measurement Initiative (HRMI) into commercial data products. We are dedicated to offering a range of human rights data and technology products that are useful and solve real-world problems. Our first product is the Rights Intelligence dataset, which is available on a subscription basis to fund managers. Future products will include tools to evaluate investment portfolios using a sovereign human rights lens and support human rights due diligence.
Position overview as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Rights Intelligence you will play a pivotal role in driving operations to ensure seamless execution of our mission to offer cutting-edge human rights data and technology products.
You will work closely with the CEO to establish efficient processes, optimise resources, and foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. Your strategic vision, initiative, and operational excellence will be instrumental in scaling our operations and positioning Rights Intelligence for sustainable growth and impact.
As we approach our first birthday, we are seeking candidates interested in a foundational role within a purpose-driven technology start-up. You must be able to work quickly and independently on a wide range of tasks and be passionate about supporting our mission.
The role and responsibilities operations leadership: Develop and implement systems and technologies to drive sales, productivity, cost-effectiveness, and team wellbeing. Monitor and optimise operational performance metrics.
Budgeting and financial management Oversee all financial operations, including day-to-day bookkeeping (using Xero), budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and resource allocation. Collaborate with our Virtual CFO to ensure accurate financial reporting, and sound financial planning. Prepare financial presentations and support the CEO with fundraising activities and investor relations.
Human resources Foster a culture of worker autonomy and strong peer relationships geared towards achieving ambitious company targets. Recruit self-motivated and high achieving team members aligned with goals. Onboard for a collaborative high-performing environment, and structure compensation accordingly.
Legal and risk management Serve as the liaison with external legal counsel, ensuring all contractual agreements, including data licensing arrangements, are thoroughly reviewed and fit for purpose. Implement robust risk management frameworks. Stakeholder relationships collaborate with the CEO to build and nurture strategic partnerships that support the company’s growth objectives and long-term success.
In the initial stages of our growth, you will be expected to assist with administrative tasks, such as managing sales enquiries, scheduling meetings and maintaining our Xero account. However, as the company scales, your role will increasingly focus primarily on driving operational excellence and strategic initiatives.
You will bring proven experience as a COO or across a range of business operations in a senior leadership role, preferably within a high-growth startup or technology company. Exceptional strategic thinking and vision, with the ability to anticipate challenges, identify opportunities, and develop innovative solutions.
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, including excellent people management and team-building abilities. Solid financial acumen, with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and resource allocation.
A hands-on, entrepreneurial mindset, with the willingness to roll up your sleeves and take on a diverse range of tasks in a fast-paced startup environment.
A proactive and self-driven approach to work, with strong initiative, and an ability to thrive in ambiguity, and pivot quickly as circumstances evolve. A strong commitment to our mission, with a genuine passion for driving positive change through our human rights data and technology products. A bachelor's degree in a relevant field, plus an understanding of the finance/ ESG sectors.
Location Wellington, or remote (if based outside of NZ, must have significant working hours overlap with NZ). Hours 24 - 40 hours per week. If starting part-time, hours can increase as we grow. Open to fractional COO. Remuneration NZD $105,000 - $120,000 FTE pro-rated, plus share options. Start date As soon as possible, ideally no later than November 2024.
