With an admirable track record of building 3-4 homes annually and a significant growth from 4 to 12 staff members under the current leadership, HFHV boasts a healthy $2-3 million turnover, reflecting both stability and potential for future expansion.

Background after 14 years of successfully leading the organisation, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will be stepping down at the end of 2024. Habitat for Humanity Victoria is now looking to appoint a talented and suitably qualified Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead the organisation into its next phase of growth. The role of the CEO is multifaceted and pivotal, requiring a harmonious blend of charitable understanding, business acumen, and a heartfelt connection to Christian principles.

This leader will not only sustain the current momentum but also drive the organisation to its next chapter of impact and growth, ideally with an appreciation for the construction process and a vision for expanding your reach and influence.

Habitat for Humanity Victoria are seeking to appoint a visionary and strategic CEO to lead this dynamic not-for-profit organisation. The CEO will be responsible for providing leadership, direction, and guidance towards the achievement of their mission and strategic objectives. This role requires a passionate individual with a deep commitment to the cause and a proven track record in organisational leadership, growth, and sustainability within the not-for-purpose sector.

With an annual turnover between $2-3 million, Habitat for Humanity Victoria demonstrates solid financial management and the capability to sustain and grow its charitable operations, underpinned by donor confidence and community support.

The role of CEO is integral to steering Habitat for Humanity Victoria through its diverse operations, which encompass charitable housing projects and retail initiatives. Strategic leadership will continue to be a cornerstone of the organisation’s success.

Broader responsibilities include overseeing the development and implementation of management-level policies and, with the assistance of the Board, managing corporate governance, and compliance with legal and reporting requirements of the workplace and regulatory environment (OH&S, DGR, etc).

You will lead and develop the team of staff and volunteers to accomplish operational objectives, through providing oversight of day-to-day operations and ensuring that staff development, wellbeing and succession plans are established. Working collaboratively with the team towards a shared vision, empowering staff to undertake and achieve their own duties and goals.

Key hiring criteria Habitat for Humanity Victoria are seeking to identify candidates with proven experience as a CEO, Executive Director, or senior executive in a similar sized not-for-profit sector, with a successful track record of organizational leadership and management.

Strategy - Strategic thinker with the ability to innovate, set clear priorities, and execute strategic plans effectively. Financial Management – Proven experience managing a P&L of a similar sized organisation. People Leadership - Track record of building, empowering and nurturing diverse teams to deliver strong outcomes.

Project Management & Program Delivery - Strong Project Management & Program Delivery skills and capability. Residential Building & Construction – Knowledge/experience of property acquisition and development desirable.

Fundraising - Experience in leading Fundraising strategies will be advantageous. The ability to engage with and build effective relationships with major donors and staff at Charitable Trusts and Foundations will be a key part of the role.

Retail - Experience within the retail sectors will be advantageous. Partner Families – Build strong and enduring relationships with Partner Families. Volunteers - Experience in leading or being part of the senior management of an organisation with a large volunteer base will be highly regarded.

Social Impact Measurement - Understanding and/or experience of Social Impact Measurement will be advantageous. Social Justice – Be aware of social justice issues as they relate to homelessness and housing insecurity.

Advocacy & Professional Relationships - Ability to build and maintain relationships both internally, with staff and volunteers, and externally with key stakeholder groups. Communication - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams, stakeholders, partner families and the community. Qualifications – Relevant degree qualifications in business, commerce or similar.
