Horticulture New Zealand (HortNZ) is an industry good organisation that advocates for the commercial fruit and vegetable growers across New Zealand. HortNZ is an Incorporated Society governed by a Board which is elected by its 4,200 grower members. HortNZ exists to be the ‘voice’ of the sector, led by the vision “Oranga kai, oranga tangata, haere ake nei; Healthy food for all, forever”.

HortNZ are seeking its next Chief Executive to lead the team to provide industry leadership, through a strong and clear strategic perspective that serves all growers from small and midsize to large corporate entities. The HortNZ Board are looking for a CEO with the ability to have key relationships at all levels including growers, government, business and iwi.

The CEO will continue on from the transformational change that has been completed to ensure that HortNZ is delivering on key issues, and is relevant and fit for purpose for the future of the industry, with the support of an engaged Board. This is a fantastic opportunity to show your leadership and management skills, putting members and the industry at the heart of what we do.

Key focus of the role strong communication and relationship skills for working in an interdisciplinary environment, including influencing and experience at the industry–government interface, and being the face of the organisation.

Understanding and exposure in the policy and advocacy space. Energy, drive and passion for what can be at times a high pressure role. Experience with an agribusiness membership organisation is preferred but not essential.

An experienced people leader, with exceptional stakeholder management skills, who is able to deliver the strategic plan, while gaining the trust of our growers, to support the growth of the horticulture sector into the future. The role is based at the Wellington Head Office and does require frequent regional travel.
