Description

Chief Digital Officer University of Canterbury location Auckland.

The University of Canterbury celebrates people prepared to make a difference: Tangata Tū, Tangata Ora. Its mission is to contribute to society through knowledge in chosen areas of endeavour by promoting a world-class learning environment, known for attracting people with the greatest potential to make a difference.

UC is in the process of enhancing its students learning experiences by moving towards a world-leading blended learning eco-system, underpinned by interactive learning content, online labs, and virtual classes. Similarly ambitious digital initiatives will be undertaken to enable academic staff to conduct high quality research in the rapidly changing world as well as to successfully connect the entire university - students, teaching staff, researchers and administration - through the delivery of the latest collaborative technology.

In this role you will be responsible for the provision of high quality strategic ICT advice and support to the Vice-Chancellor and Executive team. You will drive and implement a core strategic priority of digital technology at UC with a mandate to 'invest in the new' while aligning strategically with the Business. You will play a vital role in actively managing relationships with UC's most senior stakeholders to understand business needs, influence, facilitate and prioritise the most appropriate technology solutions to transform organisational agility and improve the student and staff experience.

You will have substantial leadership and relationship management experience at the strategic level - ideally you would have developed your career cross-functionally, with experience driving change and innovation. You will be able to demonstrate your commercial thinking alongside your understanding of technology at an operational and strategic level.

People will describe you as a transformative leader, someone who is collaborative and team orientated, yet prepared to challenge and be flexible to shifting priorities. Motivated and innovative, you will be a future-facing thinker who enjoys challenging your own ideas and those of your colleagues, in a way that brings people with you.

The complexity of the University means we're looking for someone from an organisation of a similar scale and who has worked in an IT role at a strategic level. This is a role that will suit a passionate, talented and experienced technology professional who is motivated to drive their career forward in this vital role.

Experience in leading organisational culture change, digital transformation, and using supporting frameworks/tools, is desirable as you will be responsible for leading the development of a culture encouraging innovation; risk taking and collaboration.
