About us Cancer Control Agency is a departmental agency that provides national leadership for and oversight of cancer control. Our name means ‘the central thread of the cloak': we work with all organisations and individuals involved in cancer care in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Te Aho o Te Kahu takes a whole-of-system focus on preventing and managing cancer cancer care in New Zealand. The Agency is accountable for ensuring transparent progress towards the goals and outcomes in Te Mahere mō te Mate Pukupuku o Aotearoa - the National Cancer Action Plan. Te Aho o Te Kahu reports directly to the Minister of Health. We are equity-led, knowledge-driven, person/whānau-centred and outcomes focused.

What you'll do we are looking for a strategist to provide thought leadership and systems thinking from a Māori perspective to inform our Agency's role and work. The Tākai Aronui | Chief Advisor Māori will work with the Tumuaki | Chief Executive and wider leadership team to provide Te Ao Māori expert advice on our work programmes, ensuring they reflect the Crown's relationship with Māori.

Key responsibilities strategic Leadership Uphold a clear Māori perspective across all our mahi, ensuring the needs and aspirations of whānau Māori affected by cancer are understood and addressed within the Agency and the wider cancer care sector.

Executive Partnership Be a trusted advisor to the Tumuaki | Chief Executive and wider leadership team, providing strategic insights and anticipating their needs. Cultural Expertise Utilise your skills, knowledge and cultural intelligence to align our work with our responsibilities and values.

Stakeholder Engagement Lead and support relationships with key partners, including Hei Āhuru Mowai, He Ara Tangata, clinical advisory groups, iwi organisations, Iwi Māori Partnership Boards (IMPBs), and other Māori health stakeholders.

Collaboration Foster collaborative and positive relationships across the Agency, government, and community sectors to align our initiatives and efforts. Performance Monitoring Work with our teams to support the monitoring of Māori cancer outcomes and performance within the cancer care system in Aotearoa New Zealand. Capability Building Support the organisation's work to improve capability in Te Ao Māori and Māori-Crown relations.

What you'll bring recognition and respect as a Māori leader who holds mana within the community. Experience in delivering work that embeds equity, Te Tiriti and whānau voice. Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Māori culture, tikanga Māori, Kaupapa Māori frameworks and Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Experience at strategic management levels working to embed te ao Māori in organisational settings.

Exceptional communication skills and political nous, with the ability to navigate both the Māori and political world. Credibility in developing, sustaining, and influencing relationships with Ministers, senior decision-makers and Tiriti partners. Broad and established networks with iwi/Māori and the ability to enhance working relationships with the Agency's current iwi/Māori partners and network. Fluency or at least strong proficiency in Te Reo me ōna tikanga Māori. An innovative mindset and demonstrated ability to collaborate and influence others.
