Casual Reception Officer Deakin University location South West Coast VIC.

The role Deakin Residential Services (DRS) Geelong, is looking to expand their casual staff pool. Do you have shift work experience in hospitality, education or administration. Are you ready to work in a vibrant and lively student accommodation precinct where no two days are the same.

As a Reception Officer, you will be required to work across a variety of shifts on a 24/7 roster at the Waurn Ponds and Waterfront campuses. The main shifts are 7.00am to 3.00pm, 3.00pm to 11.00pm and 11.00pm to 7.00am with the majority of shifts on weekends.   You will provide reception, administration and program support services for Deakin Residential Services.

This includes high-quality customer service to the current and future residents, families, University staff and external contractors. The position acts as a point of contact for residents and provides information as part of the community life of the residential complex, or referral to an appropriate service.  It also assists with the organisation and implementation of academic, social, cultural and sporting events/activities that facilitate a living and learning community.

This position reports to the Reception Coordinator and will have strong relationships with other members of the reception team, whilst providing assistance to the Campus Life Coordinator, Reservations & Revenue Officer, Maintenance Coordinator, Operations Manager and General Manager of the respective campus as required.

Regular and ongoing formal and informal contact and interaction with residents (students) is expected. Regular contact with Deakin Security is expected in order to facilitate incident responses. Regular liaison with other areas of the University will be required in order to assist with the provision of reception services, program support and administrative tasks.

To be successful, you’ll have proven Successful Ability To Deliver High-Quality Customer Service With Experience In Shift Work. Demonstrated Ability To Operate Independently And Effectively Within A Team Environment.

Good Level Administrative Skills Including Computer Literacy And The Ability To Plan, Time Manage And Implement Activities. Good Verbal And Written Communication Skills, Including Need For Confidentiality. Good Interpersonal Skills Including The Ability To Relate To People From Diverse Backgrounds, And Particularly Young People.

Your key responsibilities will be to first point of contact for any after hours student interaction to assist in a professional manner with their inquiries, or to refer them to the relevant personnel or information source. Assist with general maintenance issues as required.

Be equipped to professionally respond to any situation, this may include acting as the chief fire warden or first aid officer. Assist with general administration and reception duties which will include maintaining the resident housing management system. Coordinate bookings and delivery of services for short term accommodation customers. Support the campus life coordinator, maintenance coordinator and reservations & revenue officer as required. Any other duties as directed, commensurate with the scope and classification of the position.
