About the team the product development team works across a number of research themes broadly aimed at improving the quality and shelf-life of blood products, and making them safer for patients associated with blood transfusion. We use our expertise in cellular biology, molecular biology and immunology to understand both how blood products change during routine storage and to develop new ways of storing blood products. The Research Assistant will contribute to this professional and close-knit team by providing research support across a number of projects on blood donation. Our goal is to deliver leading edge research that translates into evidence-based business practice, while expanding academic knowledge about blood donation. Working under guidance from the National R&D Leader to support the research program, the Research Assistant will use experience and/or intellectual expertise to generate and analyse data, and from time to time, provide advice and recommendations in relation to project outcomes. We have multiple Research Assistant positions available. One permanent and full time opportunity, the others 12 month fixed term and full time. This role will involve blood separation and isolation of specific cell types, functional assays of platelets, white cells and red blood cells, cell proliferation and activity assays, flow cytometry, elisas and immunoassays. You will have completion of an honours degree (biomedical/life sciences) or equivalent, strong experience in biochemistry, cell biology, haematology or immunology research - 2 years' at least is desirable, attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate laboratory records, the ability to assimilate complex concepts and integrate into practical application, excellent technical proficiency. You will also be an excellent communicator with great verbal and written skills, analytical in your approach to problem solving, able to undertake and manage multiple tasks simultaneously and work independently, an outstanding team player who supports the achievement of shared goals.
