Avian Hospital Assistant (x2). Fixed-term one year with potential for permanent. BirdCare Aotearoa wild bird hospital and rehabilitation centre (BCA) is a registered charitable trust dedicated to providing professional care and rehabilitation for sick, injured and orphaned wild birds in the greater Auckland area.

Based at a large site in Green Bay, BCA operates a Department of Conservation approved avian hospital and rehabilitation facilities, handling around 6,000 birds per year. The centre is run by a small team of staff assisted by a larger team of volunteers. This role is rostered on a 4 days on 4 days off schedule. Applicants must have the right to work in New Zealand for the entirety of the fixed-term agreement, which has the potential to become permanent.

The primary responsibilities include caring for birds in the hospital facilities, including feeding, weighing, and medicating. Cleaning and maintaining enclosures. Entering and updating records of the birds on the online hospital database. Notifying the Hospital Manager of any concerns about the birds. Supervising/working alongside volunteers.

The ideal candidates will have bird handling experience, be self-motivated, able to work under pressure, and unsupervised. They will be respectful, kind, and compassionate towards the birds in care and the people at the centre. This role will start in July, therefore it is necessary to be a New Zealand citizen, resident, or have already secured the right to work in New Zealand and therefore hold a valid work visa.
