About the role Cybercrime is the most rapidly growing crime type globally, causing significant harm to individuals and organisations across our policing districts. New Zealand Police are the lead agency in investigating cybercrime and need qualified people to join an expanding team. We are looking for high performing dynamic people to lead or support our cybercrime investigations.
This role involves working closely with police districts, other internal work groups, and a range of government and international law enforcement agencies. As an investigator in the Cybercrime Unit you will work as part of a team and be involved in a range of online investigations including ransomware, business email compromise, computer intrusions, darknet marketplaces, cryptocurrency cases and online threats.
You will have strong analytical and critical thinking skills, attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure. You may have previous investigative experience in other roles or knowledge in one or more relevant areas of cyber including Open-Source Intelligence gathering. Cryptocurrencies, Financial crime, DNS and web technologies, Digital forensics or cybersecurity tools.

Key accountabilities manage complex cybercrime investigations. Provide support and advice to districts across a range of online investigations topics. Build and maintain partnerships including government agencies and international law enforcement. Develop and deliver training to districts and other work groups.

Must be able to obtain Top Secret government security clearance. Police Employees must be able to obtain and maintain the delegation of Authorised Officer. The position holder will need to complete training and achieve competency to hold the powers of an Authorised Officer warranted under S24(1)(a) of the Policing Act 2008.
To meet operational requirements (including in an emergency), the successful candidate may be required to work outside of normal operating hours. This role is set at Individual Contributor level, this means your key purpose is "to deliver or enable others to deliver Our Business".
