Animal and Customer Care Attendant Animal Welfare League SA location Adelaide.

We’re looking for someone to provide vital help to all animals and customers by providing animal care and admin support within our Animal Care Centre. Since 1964, Animal Welfare League (AWL) has been creating happy homes for stray and abandoned animals, including pets whose owners can no longer care for them. We reunite lost dogs and cats with their human family, provide temporary shelter through our foster care program and support thousands of responsible owners by boarding their pets.

For those grieving the loss of a faithful companion, our cremation and memorial team offers ways to say goodbye and celebrate the joy their pet brought to their lives. AWL's Animal Care Centre at Cormack Rd, Wingfield is the base for most AWL services, including adoptions, vet care, lost cats and pet boarding.  AWL is a seven-day animal care operation. By becoming a part of the AWL family, you'll be helping to rehabilitate and rehome lost and abandoned animals from across South Australia, and you'll be a part of a best-practice team.

You’ll provide vital help to all animals and customers by providing animal care and admin support within the Animal Care Centres. This exciting and unique role will rely on your ability to remain calm and collected whilst working under pressure in a fast-paced environment. The successful applicant must have strong customer service, organisational, data integrity and animal handling skills as they will rotate across numerous functions including; strays, reuniting lost animals with owners, surrenders, adoptions and general shelter operations.

This role has these responsibilities and duties providing animal care using safe animal handling skills, performing animal care tasks such as cleaning enclosures, feeding, exercising and monitoring animals, daily data entry and completing accurate documentation for all animals into Shelterbuddy, microchip company databases e.g. DACO or any other specified programs, attending to AWL frontline customer service and telephone enquiries,

maintaining Shelterbuddy databases with a high level of attention to detail, coordinating and processing ID trace, lost and found, animal adoptions, booking veterinary services appointments, cremations, surrenders and intake of animals; and cleaning and hygiene duties at the Animal Care Centre.

To succeed in this job, you will have strong drive for positive change, and a passion for making a difference, have minimum four years previous experience in an animal care/customer service or related field is preferred, type accurately at 50+ wpm, be rostered across seven days a week. (Including weekends and PH), a Certificate II in Animal Studies qualification preferred, a Certificate 3 in Companion Animal Services qualification or willingness to work towards this certification within an agreed timeframe.

Have excellent communicational skills, and proven ability to proactively drive foster activities, exhibit exceptional organisational skills with an emphasis on detail and accuracy, have excellent time management skills and the ability to work unsupervised; and possess proven capacity to be impartial to the emotive issues with which they will be challenged on a daily basis.
