The Falkland Islands Government (FIG) has an exciting opportunity for an Agricultural Advisor - Land Management & Grazing Systems to join our existing team within Department of Agriculture in the Falkland Islands.

The Role is located in the Falkland islands the Agricultural Advisor - Land Management & Grazing Systems is responsible for developing and leading the land and grazing management programme by providing advice to industry that is objective, practical, economically sound. The advice will be tailored to the needs of individual farm businesses to achieve the key objectives of the Department of Agriculture Strategic Plan through provision of pragmatic advice on soil, pasture and strategic land & grazing management.

Advancing sustainable agricultural practices that can increase the productivity, resilience and profitability of the Falkland Islands agriculture and horticultural industries. The role also includes advising, supporting and collaborating with land owners in relation to on-farm research investigating sustainable land management and grazing technology & systems that are fit for purpose in the Falkland Islands.

The person the successful candidate will be a team player and a strategic thinker with good attention to detail who is able to achieve results and inspire confidence to ensure an integrated and effective service is provided. Excellent interpersonal skills are essential plus the demonstrated ability to communicate and network effectively via a range of methods with farmers, co-workers and others in the agricultural sector.

The post holder will hold a degree in Agricultural Science or Natural Resource Economics with specialisation in agricultural production, or equivalent with a minimum of 5 years’ postgraduate experience in soil and plant sciences in mixed crop-forage and grazing systems.

The successful applicant must also be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience of land-use systems, particularly in relation to weather extremes, soil degradation and agro-ecosystems vulnerable to climate change.

The package fixed Term Contract, up to 4 years. Starting Salary - £39,944 up to £46,000 per annum, commensurate with qualifications and experience rising to £49,341(FKP). Eligibility for a 25% Gratuity (taxable). 41 days paid leave, 30 days paid annual leave plus 11 government and public holidays. Relocation Allowance, to help with moving costs.
