Description

We offer two internships for graduated veterinarians, starting in July and December of each year.

We have a fully equipped equine hospital in Prebbleton, 15-minutes from the centre of Christchurch. We provide a full hospital service including emergency and elective surgeries, internal medicine investigations, lameness and poor performance investigations and reproduction services. Our hospital consists of stabling/yards for 27 horses, a full surgical suite, three work-up areas and a standalone barn for orthopaedic investigations. We have a new nuclear scintigraphy unit, two digital radiography units, an overground endoscope, a video gastroscope, three upper respiratory scopes, a MyLab ultrasound scanner and a surgical diode laser. The hospital is supported by a comprehensive 24/7 in-house laboratory. The veterinarians are assisted by three qualified veterinary nurses and an experienced farrier.

Alongside our hospital service, we offer a full range of ambulatory racetrack, sport and leisure horse services and seasonal breeding work.

The successful applicant will be involved in all aspects of the hospital as well as the ambulatory practice. Interns are responsible for general anaesthesia, all in-patient care and working up cases alongside our experienced veterinarians, including an ECVS-boarded surgeon. First opinion ambulatory duties are also carried out by the intern, with the support of our other veterinarians.

We are looking for a positive, enthusiastic, self-motivated veterinarian, who enjoys working as part of a team to join us. This is a full-time role (minimum 40 hours per week) and the salary band is $61,692.80 - $62,000.00 NZD commensurate with experience. The salary package includes a vehicle provided for on-call work, mobile phone, Veterinary Council of New Zealand registration, and CPD expenses are covered.

Registration (either full or limited) with the Veterinary Council of New Zealand is a requirement of this role.

Expressions of interests and curriculum vitae should be addressed to Hamish Ranken and sent via email.
