About the Opportunity
The Specialist Safety Engineer will work as part of the Collins Class Submarine Life of Type Extension (LOTE) program. The role is responsible for scoping, planning and conducting formal safety analysis activities predominately for new designs and systems.
The Specialist Safety Engineer will provide Safety Engineering expertise and leadership to both the Safety Engineering group, but also the broader business at ASC. The successful candidate will lead Hazard analysis activities, provide mentorship and management of Safety Engineers and direct Safety engineering work scope.
This role is a permanent full time opportunity, based from Osborne.
Responsibilities
Supervision and management of Safety Engineers and the provision of technical direction, guidance and mentoring
Manage system requirements and associated interfaces, also initiate and provide guidance to all skill levels on all aspects of tasks
Provide technical advice to customer organisations, regulatory bodies and internally within the ASC business
Ensure that Safety Engineering activities undertaken comply with applicable defence / industry standards, regulations, and policies
Author and maintain comprehensive safety documentation, including System Safety Program Plans, Hazard Logs, Safety Case Reports and Hazard Analysis Reports
Perform Hazard analyses of a complex nature, co-ordinating inputs from multiple stakeholders
Participate and undertake in process improvements to continuously enhance safety engineering practices and methodologies
Perform tasks without supervision, with initiative and adaptability to situations
Development of new processes and tools to improve accuracy and efficiency of work
About you
A bachelor's degree in engineering, safety engineering, or a related field
10+ years’ experience of Safety Engineering and Hazard/Risk management related roles (Required)
Experience with complex defence / Industry based systems and their system safety programs
Experience gaining regulatory approval of complex safety cases in the defence / Industry arena
Experience gaining regulatory approval of complex safety cases in the defence / Industry arena
Familiar with HAZOP/HAZID Facilitation and/or assessment process
Familiar with Software engineering practices and the analysis and determination of Software Criticality e.g. MIL-STD 882E, IEC 61508
Eligibility
This role requires a current National Police Clearance, an Australian Defence Security Clearance and an ability to access protected US defence technology. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearances and approvals.
Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.
