We are seeking a Cloud Operations Engineer to provide dedicated operational support and technical leadership for our Australian client, the ABS. This is a pivotal role that ensures compliance with IRAP (Information Security Registered Assessors Program) standards and maintains the reliability, security, and performance of ABS-specific environments.
You will take ownership of day-to-day system operations, troubleshoot and respond to incidents, manage database performance and scaling, and implement updates through a GitOps-based framework. Working closely with both local and international teams, you’ll enable secure integrations, improve operational efficiencies, and strengthen Forsta’s service delivery to ABS.
This is a Sydney-based position requiring Australian residency due to data access restrictions under IRAP. It plays a critical role in enabling Forsta to meet its contractual and legal obligations in delivering the Forsta Plus Single Tenant service.
Key Responsibilities
Compliance & Security: Maintain cloud infrastructure in line with IRAP standards, applying necessary security controls and risk management processes.
Incident Management: Lead incident response for ABS environments, escalating as needed and ensuring compliance with local data access restrictions.
System Maintenance: Deploy and maintain infrastructure changes using GitOps, ensuring timely updates and stable site performance.
Capacity Planning: Monitor system metrics and proactively manage scaling of Azure Kubernetes Services (AKS) and AzureSQL to maintain optimal performance.
Client Support: Provide direct, daily operational support to ABS personnel, troubleshoot infrastructure and integration issues, and ensure smooth system configuration.
Collaboration: Coordinate with international teams to ensure external systems remain functional during platform updates and to respond to evolving compliance requirements.
Citizenship Requirement
Due to the nature of this role and the sensitivity of government data, Australian Citizenship is a mandatory requirement. The successful candidate must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Baseline or NV1 Australian Government Security Clearance in accordance with IRAP and ABS requirements.
About You
You are a proactive and technically capable Cloud Engineer with deep experience in Azure services and a strong understanding of government-grade compliance requirements. You’re solutions-focused, hands-on, and committed to delivering secure, stable systems. You enjoy working collaboratively across teams and geographies, and thrive in a client-facing environment where trust and technical excellence are paramount.
You’ll bring:
5+ years of experience with Azure Cloud Services, particularly AKS and AzureSQL.
Demonstrated understanding of IRAP compliance and related data access requirements.
Experience managing system incidents, performing disaster recovery, and enhancing cloud service performance.
Proficiency in GitOps-based change management and deployment practices.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a commitment to client service.
Flexibility to participate in out-of-hours support or coordination with global teams when required.
Join us and play a key role in delivering secure, compliant, and high-performing solutions for one of Australia’s most important public data agencies.
Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of color are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At PG Forsta we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyways. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.
