Utilise your expertise and leadership to build insights capability for DOC. Oversee the development and delivery of strategic insights to support decision-making. Lead a dynamic programme of insights and analytics across biodiversity, visitor and heritage functions.

About the role as the Insights and Analytics Manager, you'll be leading the insights, analytics and data science functions across the Department's Biodiversity, Heritage and Visitors functions.  Using information from across DOC and the environmental sector, you'll be responsible for strategically designing an insights product suite and cadence to meet our future needs and support operational decision-making and conservation prioritisation. It's an incredibly exciting opportunity for someone with senior insights experience to build a new function that makes a difference to conservation.

On a day-to-day basis, you'll lead a passionate team of insights and technical advisors and analysts. This is a new team, so a key focus will be to bring excellent leadership, support and common purpose, and ensure roles and responsibilities are well aligned with a clear work programme linked to the organisation's needs and priorities.

This role will enable you to collaborate with delivery teams and leaders across DOC, as well as external stakeholders, to ensure relevant data sets and insights are appropriately incorporated into insights products to drive understanding and support decision-making.

Skills and experience It goes without saying you'll bring strong knowledge and experience in insights analysis, data science and reporting; additionally we're also interested in the following skills and experience leading a scientific, technical or analytical team, with demonstrated ability to create a great team culture, to inspire and motivate.

Experience leading team capability and development in the insights space. Demonstrated success in leading and delivering on a programme of work with demonstrated practical delivery. Excellent relationship management and communication skills. Experience leading cross-functional work contributing to wider organisational outcomes. Understanding of the impact DOC and the government sector has on the Māori-Crown relationship.

The salary range for this position is $126,896 - $180,611 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience. Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory - this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.
