Construction Tutor. Location Candidate ideally be based in Whanganui - Work sites will be within the Whanganui Region. Employment Type Full-Time.
About the Role the successful candidate will play a key role in AGC's “Build a House” program, teaching, leading, and supporting students in gaining valuable construction skills through hands-on, real-world learning experiences. We are looking for someone who can inspire young learners while sharing their expertise in residential construction and keen to learn how to be a great tutor through our team professional development program.
You will be required to perform as a Carpentry Tutor at two Whanganui-based secondary schools, two days per week for each site and one day coaching per week at AGC Training's Main Construction Campus.
Key responsibilities teach construction students practical skills related to residential building. Lead students in the construction of a 2-bedroom transportable house. The delivery of engaging learning activities and assessments.
Mentor and guide students, helping them develop both technical skills and personal growth. Create a positive learning environment where students feel valued and supported. Collaborate with the AGC team to ensure the best outcomes for our students.
To be successful in this role, you ideally will must have permanent work rights without restrictions to work in New Zealand. Hold a current LBP license. Have a relevant qualification in residential construction. Have practical experience with modern residential construction techniques and job site management.
Show at least 5 years of experience working in the construction industry. Have experience in adult education (preferably in face-to-face delivery), or willing to learn. Understand the tertiary education sector. Assist with the design and delivery of engaging learning activities and assessments.
Demonstrate the ability to adapt to students' varied learning needs. Be passionate about inspiring students and fostering a love for learning. Enjoy working with people from diverse backgrounds. Apply a solutions-focused approach to challenges. Have reasonable computer skills, especially in Microsoft Office. Be reliable, adaptable, and a positive team player.
