We have a vacancy for a Kaiārahi Tamariki (Child Advocate) in Te Whare Aio Māori Women’s Refuge. This position plays a critical role for tamariki who have been impacted by family violence, through advocacy and support and delivery of a new pilot programme – Kōkihi ngā Rito. This programme has tamariki at its heart; it provides a service experience that is purposeful, targeted, effective, and accounts for children’s specific needs.

The ideal applicant will have a relevant tertiary level education and/or significant practical experience. Experience working alongside children and a passion for social justice. An understanding of family violence and the effect of this violence on tamariki and their whanau. An understanding of child protection and commitment to develop further in this field.

Understanding of Tikanga and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi Principles. A commitment to promote a violence free lifestyle. Ability to be an active team player, work collaboratively and be ready to put your hand to anything. A flexible attitude and ‘can do’ approach.

The ability to work unsupervised, to multitask and work well under pressure. Excellent time management and organisational skills. High level of clear written and verbal communication skills, record keeping and confidentiality. Clean full driver’s licence.

No criminal history, and agree to police vetting. Applicants for this position must have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa. This is a full-time permanent position, working 40 hours per week within the hours of the 8:00am – 6.00pm, Monday to Friday and is based out of our office in West Auckland.
