About the role we have an exciting opportunity to join the Central Emergency Communications Centre as a dispatcher. The dispatch functions are a critical part of responding to and managing all calls for service, and the primary role is to help coordinate the Police response to an emergency or critical incident. We are looking for people who employ empathy when making decisions and are passionate about delivering the service New Zealanders expect and deserve.
This role is integral part of enabling our people to be safe and feel safe, as such we are looking for people who are able to identify risk, exercise judgement and be diligent in following process and procedure designed to optimise officer safety.
Key accountabilities ability to exercise judgement and understand risk appreciation. Identify opportunities to prevent harm. Confidence to enact command and control. Ability to engage with and reflect on feedback. Self-driven development. Demonstrate an ability to maintain self-control and self-motivation.
Accurately capture data with excellent attention to detail. Direct and manage frontline staff. Ability to maintain professionalism and respect in a high stress environment. Coordinate and manage responses to calls for service and critical incidents. Experience as a Communicator is an advantage.
The role of Dispatcher is such that it requires fast decision making and constant reassessment of competing priorities. Although the role has a significant focus on the tactical response of our frontline staff, integrity and empathy form a critical part of decision making.
Successful applicants that are currently Emergency Centre Communicators will be appointed in accordance with the conditions set out in the current Employee Collective Employment Agreement 2021 - 2023.
