About the role this role is integral in providing a national level supervision for the NZ Police Forensic laboratories and ensuring quality Forensic Service Delivery back to the organisation, providing governance and oversight to the National Fingerprint Service Centre (NFPSC) laboratories to support NZ Police forensics and our partners.

This exciting opportunity will allow you to look after our people by guiding and maintaining the wider organisational needs of our forensic laboratories along with building, maintaining and managing highly cohesive relationships, both internally and externally.

By having relevant forensic lab experience will enable you to provide guidance and advise on laboratory policy practise and procedures within the forensic workgroups.

You will contribute to NFPSC laboratory strategic decisions, managing risk and deployment of resources. Keeping our business current by proactively researching, sourcing, and delivering new capabilities. Ensuring a sound knowledge and understanding of the specialist equipment used, driving the implementation and validation of these capabilities (equipment, techniques, technologies).

You will be the driving force for legislative compliance of police forensic laboratories, ensuring the workgroup are in accordance with the current policies and standards along with being responsible for health and safety monitoring of our people. To do this effectively this role will cover governance, auditing and management of the relevant national policies and procedures.

The National Laboratory Manager will be someone with a governance focus, solid foundation of operational experience and can provide exceptional support for our districts leading to synergy between our partner workgroups.

Having an intimate knowledge of Policing from a laboratory background with experience in Police laboratory processes, systems and legislative landscape of national health and safety laboratory requirements.

Well-practiced in-service delivery within a large organisation and the ability to navigate a multifaceted environment leading technical specialist. Finely tuned ability to strategically develop resources, with project management skills, including financial and communication management.

Special requirements must be qualified within the New Zealand Police Fingerprint Career Structure as a Senior Fingerprint Officer OR demonstrate suitable laboratory skills, knowledge and experience, particularly in a forensic or chemical laboratory OR have the equivalent level of forensic fingerprint qualifications, fingerprint office and laboratory experience in an international jurisdiction.

Must have practised as a qualified fingerprint specialist for a minimum of five years and must have a Science Degree with laboratory-based sciences and/or have managed and/or worked in an analytical laboratory for at least 2 years.
