Cyber Security Advisor New Zealand Customs Service location Wellington.
The New Zealand Customs Service protects and promotes New Zealand across borders. We promote New Zealand's international trade, collect due Crown revenue, and enforce the law by identifying and seizing prohibited imports and exports. We also make sure that lawful traveller's and items can move across our border as smoothly as possible.
Our Maori name - Te Mana Arai o Aotearoa - translates as "the authority that screens and protects New Zealand". Based in our Wellington Customhouse and reporting to the Manager Information and Cyber Security, we are looking for a Cyber Security Advisor passionate about working collaboratively with the wider Information Services team and across Customs to administer security requirements within an information services and technology environment. We are looking for someone committed to helping us implement strategies, policies and technologies that align to industry best practice and meet our customer's needs.
We are looking for someone pragmatic, who has a clear understanding of the NZ Government IT security compliance requirements while recognising the need for appropriate solutions when it comes to maintaining a secure IT environment.
So what are we looking for someone not afraid to "tell it like it is" but in a respectful, collegial way and can offer acceptable suggestions on how to navigate through any perceived security roadblocks. They need to be approachable and easy to work with, encouraging staff and managers to engage early ensuring all the security considerations are thought about up front.
We want someone whose insightful decisions are evident of a love for planning, research, data analysis and interpretation. We are not expecting you to have all the answers up front. Someone who is methodical, logical and sensible in their approach to analysing options and presenting recommendations. Being able to communicate in plain language, keep things short and snappy and be clear and concise.
We are looking for someone who understands security risk and enjoys exploring all the mitigation options, evaluating the pros and cons of each option to arrive at the most viable ones to put forward for consideration.
